The Regulator
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a despicable outlaw who will stop at nothing to make innocent people sick …
But have no fear! On our side we have The Regulator, who stands back to back with CF Champions as they fight for health and wellness with the twin powers of exercise and self-care! The LLR mascot, designed by Emlen and his cousin, Neil Cohn, takes his name from the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) protein which, when working correctly, ensures our mucus has enough water to lubricate and protect the linings of our lungs and intestines. When the CFTR does not work properly, mucus becomes thick and sticky, affecting the lungs and the gastrointestinal system. The result is frequent lung infections and difficulty digesting food, both common CF symptoms. The Regulator’s shield bears the LifeLineRacing Longevity Symbol, which is based on the Shou symbol for longevity, one of the Five Blessings of Chinese Belief. With CF, longevity is the name of the game. Our hero wears a CF airway clearance vest, underscoring the importance of maintaining CF therapies which, together with exercise, are critical to health. The Regulator encourages exercise and sports to improve the health and wellness of all people, especially our CF Champions. |
